Perfect Dinner Party Tableware

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

Preparing for a dinner party with friends or acquaintances can be one hell of a stressful time, with so much to plan for and do it can be easy to lose track of the little details what really matter and which for some of your guests will make all the difference to the evening, tableware from the 80’s or 90’s which is another thing that can niggle away in the back of our heads as being a problem. Many of us still have and use old and tired dinnerware and kitchen accessories, but it’s something we feel socially pressured in to renewing every few years to keep up with modern trends and fashions, no one wants to seem out of touch among friends.

There is so much on offer in this day an age that we are really spoilt for choice, maybe that’s part of the problem, either way the bewildering selection of glasses, cups, mugs and plates on offer both online and in the high street shops is staggering and it can be hard to know where to start. One item of dinnerware that will have the most impact on style is placematsand if youre struggling to decide on a style then placemats can be the best place to start finalising your decisions, considering how visible placemats are its hardly surprising how much of an impact that they can have on the aesthetic look of a table arrangement.

With the placemat selection out of the way you can then turn your attention to the other elements of the table which your guests will have physical contact with such as glassware, cutlery and plates, be mindful and choose the styles that will complement each other and work with the placemats you have already chosen. Another aspect worth considering is the tablecloth, I tend to opt for a neutral tablecloth such as a white one so as not to clash with any coloured accents you may choose to include such as flowers in table arrangements or any flourished of colour you may have in the glassware you select.

Home Cleaning Tips

In many households just getting everyone to wash up after themselves or push the vacuum cleaning over the carpets once a week can be a challenge so anything more than that is going to be almost impossible. Rooms like the bathroom and kitchen can hide a lot of germs which can be very dangerous which is why ideally these two rooms should be cleaned every day. This doesn’t have to be a complicated job, something as simple as wiping the surfaces with antibacterial wipes.

In the bathroom it’s not just the toilet you need make sure is clean it’s everything. The bathroom is one room that’s going to be very moist and very warm a lot of the time which makes it the ideal breading ground for germs. Bath screens are something that should be cleaned after every use to stop the build up of mildew. You don’t need to invest in expensive brand name cleaning products either, a simple mix of water, vinegar and baking soda will take care of most stubborn stains and leave everything sparkling. Showers are another item that should be cleaned down after each use, make sure you don’t get a plug hole full of hair and keep the tiles clean.

The kitchen has the potential to be quite dangerous if it’s not cleaned properly as there’s so much food in it. If you can have separate utensils for cooked and uncooked meat. Paying for and storing extra utensils might not be practical in which case it’s essential that every thing’s washed well after each use. To help purify wooden chopping boards try rubbing salt into them as you wash them to help purify them. The taps often get overlooked in the kitchen but when you think about what’s on your hands when you touch them this is quite shocking.

The Need For A Gutter

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Most people don’t give their home’s gutter system much thought. When it comes to maintaining a home’s integrity and value, this is crucial so people should pay more attention to it. The system serves no purpose until it rains, but when it does, a properly installed gutter system is the only way to ensure that the rain water won’t collect on the roof or worse, run down alongside the walls of your home.

When rainwater is uncontrolled, it can get in between the vinyl siding, wood or other material that covers your home and protects it from the elements. Water running uncontrolled down the side of a house can also get behind window frames and other openings and cause further damage that’s often expensive to repair.

In much the same way as it directs a bowling ball down the end of the lane a gutter system along the perimeter of your roof carries water away from your home. If water flows towards the home’s foundation will cause it to slowly erode and impair it’s structural integrity. Considerable amount of erosion can also be caused.

Using hangars, sections of gutter are attached to the roof. There are straight, outside, and inside corner sections. In places where the gutter is attached to a downspout, the horizontal pieces connects to the vertical with the use of a drop outlet. Open ends are covered with end pieces. Positioning a splash block at the bottom of the downspout will ensure that water would flow away from the foundation of the house. It’s wise to invest in a leaf screen to keep the system maintenance-free because it will catch the leaves and other debris before clogging up the gutter and rendering it useless.

Finding a gutter system to complement your home is easy because they’re available in a wide assortment of colors and materials. When you go outside, take a good look at the gutter. If repairs are needed, better you don’t delay.
